Product Details

This dagger is from a well-known group, examples of which are in many of the world’s finest collections of Islamic Arms and Armor, public and private. The largest holding is at the Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe Germany. They are part of the vast booty, Turkenbeute collected after   and the Ottoman Army fled Vienna after the failed siege of 1683, leaving by one account, 20,000 wagons of goods. This dagger has a rosewood hilt inset with silver disks and a silver tang band. The 7 ½” blade is of fine mechanical Damascus watered steel in the whorl and crossbanded pattern. The silver scabbard is of medially banded side lobes which frame a single broad front flute and three narrow flutes to the back, all tapering through its length. It is decorated overall in chiseled flowers and retains its original wood liner. A very good example of this rare and highly identifiable group.
